A typical homeschool day at O5 Institute of Higher Learning ( the O is the first letter of our last name & there are 5 of us ) is anything but typical.
Each and every day may begin the same but somewhere after breakfast it all seems to morph into Flexible Routine. This has allowed us the structure we need to get work finished, but without the feeling of failure or disappointment when Life happens.
Here we go…Wake Up Time.
First thing in the morning the kids gather around the computer to listen to Adventures in Odyssey.
They just love this program!
This allows time for them to eat some breakfast. For me to enjoy a large mug of tea & check email and other randoms online, and get a grip on the day ahead.
Then depending on which childs day it is someone goes outside to get our Flock ready for their busy day ahead.
Now the day is in motion….we begin to drift toward the Learning Table & pull out the Books.
Some days this is 9:00 on others its a tad later or on those rare days that large amounts of caffeine were consumed we may start in the 8 oclock hour.
I stopped putting so much pressure & stress on what time the Learning Clock began & have found such freedom and joy in allowing each day to be unique.
Here is the place where Math, Language, Science, History happens.
Not always all on the same day. If it does ~ I give myself a Big pat on the back.
If we only accomplish Math with minimal strain, it is still a good day in our book.
Not everything goes according to plan & you can not rush learning fractions ; )
Growling Tummies now tell us it is Lunch Time…
This is the meal of the day where I draw a blank…so if someone volunteers…we eat it.
( I believe this became Energy Balls….so yummy!)
Moods are now better!
Each Afternoon is different depending on which day of the week it is.
We still have a rest & reading time….when the schedule allows. I do try to be home at least 2 afternoons a week.
It is amazing what can be accomplished when you just stay home….plus, Free time is so good for the kids.
But on a few days we have a Homeschool Co-op where the kids take classes that interest them, there are piano lessons, dance lessons, field trips, and those fun Errand days where they learn how the bills get mailed, the cupboards get filled and all the things that are Life.
Dinner, Chores and a bit of free time before Bedtime Books and Sleep.
Each school day is different…but I like that there is set learning time & experience time.
